NFE All Stars Win Casino Bowl XVII
The NFE All Stars beat the Minor League All Stars by a score of 22 – 21 in Casino Bowl XVII in Las Vegas on March 31, 2012. The temperature was 78 degrees with strong winds and gusts of 30 mph. The wind greatly affected the passing and kicking game.
Minor League All Stars QB Kris Kellum led his team to a TD on their first possession. He scrambled twice and brought them to the 18 yard line. On the next play he completed a TD pass. The extra poing was good. Score: 7 – 0
The following kickoff was returned by Charles Boyce to the 49 yard line. On the first play Kellum (who also played some CB) intercepted a pass just across the line of scrimmage and went 52 yards for a TD. The extra point was good. Score: 14 – 0
In the second quarter NFE got on the scoreboard when QB Jeremiah Marable entered the game. He ran the ball on 4 of 5 plays, scoring a 5 yard TD run on the last play of the first half. Steve Moser kicked the extra point. Score Minor League All Stars 14, NFE All Stars 7.
The third quarter started with QB Kellum once again leading his team with short passes and scrambling on other attempts to lead his team to another score. The extra point was good. Score 21 – 7. NFE responded with a strong running attack with Alsiene Washington and Charles Boyce leading the way. Washington scored on a 22 yard run. Steve Moser made the extra point. Score: 21 – 14
NFE contined the ground game with Washington, Boyce, Marable and Keith Marks going the distance again. Boyce scored on an exciting run of 50 yards. The extra point failed.
Score: 21 – 20
The defense took over during the third quarter. Strong “D” was aided by 2 personal fowl penalties against the Minor League All Stars. They were forced to punt from their own 5 yard line. A bad snap followed on the punt and NFE wound up with a safety.
